Day-6 got off to a beautiful start with another trip to the local sawmill. I was going for some Oak trunk for a garden bench, plus some square pieces to make the bench ends. In the end the trunk wasn’t ready, as it was drying out in the kiln and needed more time, but I managed to find a 3-metre square beam that they halved for me to start on the bench legs.

However, on the way back I looked to my right and saw the mist still sitting in the Rutland valleys, so I had to stop and take some photos…

When I got home I gave Henry a bone to keep him occupied and then got on with some DIY jobs…

The first job was to finish painting the birdhouse, mainly to protect the wood but also to make it look a bit prettier because the wood I’d used was all construction offcuts and wasn’t perfect by any means. However, I think the end result is OK for a few hours work…

I then turned my attention to the kitchenette, which needed the slate to be treated with stone sealant and I wanted to finish the slate off by making it appear to be nailed on to the backboard. I was originally going to actually nail it on (as well as using a bonding agent), but I was nervous about the risk of cracking the slate once it was applied.
I therefore came up with the idea of grinding the heads off the copper clout nails and gluing them on instead, using a superglue, which I did before sleaing the slate tiles so there would be some additional protection. I think the end result worked out pretty good though…

The rest of the day was spent up a ladder painting one of the new windows on our stable conversion project that the kitchenette is in, after which it was an evening of dinner and TV.
