Today I did a few of my very favourite things…
The day started with a lovely dog walk round Ketton Quarry, with Henry the Dalmatian. We decided to explore a few trails we hadn’t been down before and discovered a fantastic bat cave, which might be the only one in the UK. It’s really good to see the quarry investing in local nature and also to get a view of how the land will eventually be handed back to nature completely.
After that I visited a local sawmill, which has to be one of my very favourite things. I’ve been working on a kitchenette for the renovated outbuilding and sourced some solid sycamore from there for the worktop, which is absolutely beautiful…
So, today I sourced three more pieces to use as window boards, plus some offcuts for my Father-in-Law to use for smaller projects…
I’ll be back there i Saturday for some Oak, with which I’ll build a bench, then again in a few weeks for some more Oak boards that will be made in to a garden table, with reclaimed Oak sleepers for the legs and frame.
The rest of the day was filled with final sanding and the application of the first Osmo Oil coat on the worktop, which I’ll finish with a second coat tomorrow. I also sorted out the sink fixings, so I’m on-track to finish everything this week and move on to the next project.
Happy days!
